Have you ever wondered what artistic research is? Join us to find out—and become part of a focus group where we'll explore the challenges and possibilities of intergenerational dialogue together. What do all generations have in common? How do they differ, and why? How do people experience the different stages of life? Together, we'll ask questions, perhaps discover some answers, and, most importantly, help create the foundation for Saturday's Night Forest Walk, which will serve as the workshop's creative outcome and will itself focus on the theme of intergenerational dialogue. Would you like to contribute? We'd love to see you in the attic of Art Cafe! Maximum capacity of the workshop is 15 people.

Discussion: The History of Parenting and Child-Rearing in Slovakia – From the Middle Ages to Husák's Children

Join us at Joerges House on Holy Trinity Square (home of the Gavalier Café) for a conversation about the history of parenting and child-rearing in Slovakia. Together, we will explore how children were raised in times when infant mortality was a common part of life and children were expected to work from the age of three.

We will look at what parenting was like during the Enlightenment, the values and rules that shaped family life during the Slovak National Revival, and the introduction of compulsory education under Empress Maria Theresa and her son Joseph II. We will also discuss the origins of Slovakia's first nurseries, what childhood looked like during the First Czechoslovak Republic, the Second World War, and the period of Normalisation, as well as who introduced school milk snacks, children's summer camps, and outdoor schools.

Money in the Slovak Family

Join us at Joerges House for a discussion offering a historical and sociological insight into how different generations of Slovak families have viewed and managed money. You will learn how households handled their finances during the Slovak National Revival, the First and Second World Wars, and the socialist era.

The discussion will explore the relationship between Slovak society and money throughout history. We will examine who was considered the family's breadwinner during the First World War, what dowry women were expected to bring into marriage depending on the social class and historical period, who was responsible for managing the household, how people approached money in times of prosperity and economic crisis, and which historical financial habits and mistakes continue to shape the way individuals and families deal with money today.

Discover the magical world of animals with AHA WORLD! This year, we will get to know the toucan – one of the most remarkable inhabitants of the tropical rainforest. We will begin with a short film, followed by a fun quiz, and children will create their own toucan to take home. Along the way, they will learn fascinating facts about the toucan's habitat, lifestyle, and how it cares for its young. Each child will also receive a small surprise. The workshop lasts 45–60 minutes, is designed for children aged 4–8, and is led by two instructors.

With anthropologist Associate Professor Helena Tužinská and philosopher Professor Anton Vydra, we will explore the meanings and transformations of intimacy across generations. Together, we will look at intimacy as a profound cultural and existential phenomenon that encompasses both our physical embodiment and our relationship with the spaces we inhabit.

The idea of home as a place of intimacy and safety may represent a space of memories for older generations, while for younger people it can also take the form of a digital space through which they stay connected with those closest to them. Our bodies are the primary medium through which we experience the world, our own vulnerability, and express our inner selves. The worlds of children and older adults are often more physically limited and fragile, making them more dependent on their surroundings and loved ones, and giving rise to unique forms of intimacy.

At the same time, intimacy is something that is culturally shared within communities, societies, and nations through symbols, rituals, and even collective traumas. It has many faces and deeper meanings that are worth understanding—or at least attempting to understand. As the inscription at the Delphic oracle reminds us: Gnothi Seauton – Know Thyself.

The first stand-up about menopause. The end of silence, the beginning of sweating!

This cabaret performance by a three-generation ensemble from the Modra Cabaret offers an open and humorous take on a stage of life that is still too often spoken about in whispers.

Estimated duration: 10–15 minutes.

Put your knowledge to the test in our Intergenerational Quiz and compete for prizes, including a cinepass for next year's 4 živly! Teams of 2 to 4 players are welcome. Simply register your team at the venue no later than 5 minutes before the quiz begins. Don't forget to come up with a creative team name! Having members from different generations on your team could give you an edge—so don't hesitate to invite the people sitting next to you to join! We look forward to seeing you there!

Once again, we invite you to make your way to the Hájovňa campfire through the forest and experience an installation that encourages self-reflection and intergenerational dialogue. As with many of this year's festival activities, the forest walk is best enjoyed in the company of people from different generations.

For the best experience, we recommend groups of up to six people, although the walk is just as enjoyable for two. And don't forget to bring a flashlight and wear sturdy footwear—the uneven forest terrain makes both essential.

At the Hájovňa refreshment stand, you'll be able to buy, among other things, ingredients for roasting over the fire. Throughout the evening, musician and actor Ondřej Daniš will perform songs from a repertoire that transcends generational boundaries.

Start your festival morning with calmness and intention. ReGenerational Yoga is open to everyone, regardless of age or previous experience. Through gentle movement, breathing exercises, and relaxation, we'll recharge our energy for another day of the festival. Come on your own, with a partner, or with the whole family—moving together is a wonderful way to connect across generations. The session takes place in the peaceful surroundings of Veľká Vodárenská Lake. Please bring your own yoga mat or a towel.

Take a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the animated film Extraordinary and meet its creators at a creative art workshop for children and their parents. Guided by the filmmakers, children will explore a variety of artistic techniques, unleash their imagination, and create their own original artwork to take home.
