Todd Solondz’s movie, often referred to as “a dark comedy that centers around three sisters struggling to achieve happiness and middle class perfection”, is known as one of the most controversial independent movies of all time. Balancing the right amounts of fear, humor, and grotesquerie, the original screenplay smartly breaks up the genre framework and most of all – literally and figuratively – gives a new subversive meaning to the concept of “happy endings”.
