The unique color shots consistently map the first successful ascent to Everest in a reportage-poetic form. An original and authentic film, one of the first great mountaineering cinematographic works. In 1954, The Conquest of Everest was nominated for an Oscar, the same year it won the award for best documentary film from the British Film Academy. In 2023 (on the occasion of the anniversary of its creation) it was digitized and reintroduced in specialized cinemas, film clubs and festivals all over the world. The journey to Everest is documented in detail and accurately, but by no means boring. The result is a film not only for climbers or historians, but for everyone who likes to dream. The director was New Zealand mountaineer, photographer and cameraman George Lowe.
