The 1970s Senegalese classic captures the mood of the country a decade after independence. Touki Bouki follows a young couple, Anta and Mory, who have decided to leave Dakar for Paris. But they need money to board the ship – or at least to appear that they do have them. Djibril Diop Mambéty combines roughness with playfulness to create a subtle, unconventional satire of life in the post-colonial era.
