Andreas Horvath is an experienced and award-winning documentary filmmaker, Lillian is his feature film debut. The extremely evocative film tells about the journey of the main character, who decides to leave America and crosses the continent on foot, from New York to Alaska, from where she wants to get to Russia. The film is full of various symbols and metaphors, but it is not necessary to decode, you just have to let yourself be carried away by this hypnotic cinematic odyssey and watch in amazement what all Lillian experiences and how the experiences change her. The story is based on a real event, the wandering and disappearance of the emigrant Lillian Alling, but it took place (and was publicized) in the 1920s. Horvath stages the story in the present-day United States of America. The film was produced by Ulrich Seidl and premiered at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival.
