Fassbinder’s almost grotesque film follows a nascent cell of the third generation of the Red Army Faction in Germany in the 1970s. The FRA members are for him well-situated young people disconnected from the original revolutionary ideals. This very “disconnection” exposes the young radicals to possible manipulation. Who is pulling the strings from behind the stage?
